The Journey Has Begun!

Our team of 21 has embarked on our journey and have safely made it into the air out of the snowy streets and skies of Winnipeg. We are currently at 30,000 feet headed towards Minneapolis before connecting to Paris and then on to Johannesburg. There is much flying and travels ahead that will eventually land us into Swaziland on Saturday.

This team has already put in many hours of work and prep leading to this day. We have learnt much as we’ve met together over the last 3 months and have put many prayers into getting ready for this day. There is excitement, nervousness, and anticipation today. We are all doing well and are grateful to be in the position of representing our church and the hundreds of invested people that have been a part of supporting Enaleni and Bhobokazi over the past 10 years. We invite you to follow along with us as we share the images and stories of our time. Time to sign off, we are about to touch down in Minneapolis after a 45min flight. 1 down and 2 to go. I guess that means we are a third of the way there 🙂

But the best news of all…the shoes are off and the sandals are on! – Jon

  1. SwaziTeam 2018! YOU ARE TEAM #10!!!! You are leading us into a brand-new decade of partnership and ministry! You are also continuing a powerful, decade-long effort to give ourselves away and build relationships with our precious friends at Enaleni and Bhobhokazi! As you leave our continent, know that Riverwood’s Leadership Team and the entire church couldn’t be more proud of you! We are praying for you and cheering you on! See you in a week!

For the others of you who have left your heart in Africa many a time, may you experience fresh new mercies as you invest yourselves in the lives of precious friends there! We love you and will be praying for you all… health, strength, protection and a sense of adventure as you experience our God in amazing ways!

  3. When I dropped Cheryl and Bryan off this morning, I said more than once how I wished I were joining you all in this special trip. To the new people who have never been, you are going to be so welcomed and loved. I am praying that you all get sleep on the flights and bond together for this mission. I can’t wait to see what God does in your lives throughout your journey there. He is so present there. I pray you feel Him daily as you connect with the kids. But until you get to Eswatini…. Oh enjoy Paris!!

  4. TEAM! YOU MADE IT!

Jon, I hope you shouted that as you read it out, that’s why it was in all caps.

Team, well done on traveling across the world! Well done on the hours of hard work and preparation you put into this experience. You’ve finally made it! It probably feels a little surreal, you’re probably pretty tired, but you made it! Remember that all of your hard work has been so that you could get to this point! Enjoy that.

As you get ready to head to the care points remember that what you put into an experience is also what you will get out of it. So give it all you got! Love the kids well. Sing at the top of your lungs. Dance harder than you’ve ever danced, even if you look foolish doing so. Cry if you’re overwhelmed by the brokenness. And keep picking up the kids, even when you’re arms feel like lead.

Can’t wait to see and hear about all that God has in store for you. Praying for and love you all!

    Zach
