Every year we are excited to see who feels the call and right timing to join our team as we visit the carepoints, connect with the children and invest into the projects we are supporting. Every year is different and unique and we’d love to take a minute to introduce you to the 17 folks who have stepped forward to represent Riverwood this year.
Hello. My name is Karen. I am so excited to be going back to Swaziland this year. I had the privilege of being a part of the very first team in 2009 and I can hardly wait to see how God has used Riverwooders to build relationships and develop our care points.
Hi, my name is Sharlene. I have been interested in going on the Swazi trip since Riverwood began its journey in Swaziland. I have been busy raising my two boys who are now 4 and almost 6 years old. I finally feel my boys are old enough to be without me for the almost 2 weeks we will be gone. With my husband and other family supporting me I am finally able to realize this dream. I feel out of my comfort zone leaving my family and the comforts of home but I am excited to see what God has in store for me in this experience.
I’ve felt the call to return to Swaziland for 10 months now. As soon as I got home, I knew I had to go back. Last years’ trip started so much change and growth in my heart. I can’t wait to see what the Lord will bring this time. – Leigh
I have 1 son in BC and 3 daughters. 2 work for Camp Cedarwood and 1 for Enveon in Steinbach. I work for home care as a HCA. I’m thankful to Jesus for His grace and love for us. – Agnes
I have had the privilege of serving in Swaziland twice before. I love experiencing God move among the people there but also amongst the team. What an honor it is to share Jesus in this way. – LeeAnn
5 years ago, if you were to ask me if I would ever go to Africa, I would have said no way! This year will be my 4th trip going with Riverwood. I couldn’t be more excited. I sponsor a little girl who will be turning 5 this year and I can’t wait to spend some time with her. – Kailey
I am 57. I am developing cataracts and have bad knees. Technically I should be saying that I couldn’t afford this trip. Logically I should say that my contribution would be more limited than I would like it to be. After all, what difference can I make? But I know God has put it in my heart to go and if anyone thinks that one person cannot have an impact, they should spend one night with a pesky mosquito. – Jos
I find myself longing to be back with those I know and love in Swaziland. This will be my fifth trip, but who’s counting. I most definitely left my heart in Africa. – Bryan
I have recently started attending Riverwood Church and am very excited about this opportunity to go to Swaziland. I can’t wait to meet the children and spend time with them and with the team! – Hailey
I am a mother to two awesome daughters and two amazing sons-in-law! I also have a husband who is more talented then anyone I have ever known and is the love of my life. I have been to Swaziland 2 times before and can hardly wait to go back again. – Cheryl
I have attended and worked at Riverwood for 2 ½ years. I’m excited to go and see the communities of Enaleni and Bhobokazi first hand and serve there! – Zach
My first time attending Riverwood, I heard about the team that was on their way to Swaziland. I decided right away that I had to be part of the 2015 group. I’ve been at Riverwood for a little over a year and can’t wait to be an ambassador for my church in Swaziland! – Cherry
I had my first “real” missions experience a few years ago now. I went expecting to teach, but instead I was the student. My heart began to understand God’s heart for people and I have been itching to travel again. I am so excited to see His kingdom at work in Swaziland! – Jo
I am honoured to be part of the Swazi 2015 team. I’m looking forward to serving in any way, experiencing Swaziland to the fullest and diving into a culture I’ve heard so much about. I am a father of four and my wife, Ingrid, was able to go last year and pave the way. I am thankful and excited. – Ben
I’ve been attending Riverwood Church for almost 3 years now. I have never been on a mission trip before and am excited to see what God has in store for me and the whole team. – Mark (missing photo)
I have the privilege of leading our 7th team experience to Swaziland. One of my favourite things is to see how God can use these experiences to shift and change our lives and to give us a desire to pursue justice and advocacy in all areas of our worlds. The bond and relationship we have developed with these two rural communities is something precious to us at Riverwood and we are so grateful for the difference that these children and the carepoints have made in our church and lives. We are also thrilled to see the difference our support is making in their lives! – Jon
