Stuck in Chicago…..

A very tired Kelly C. writes…

Well, not my favorite day today. After 36 hours of straight travel and maybe 12 hours of restless-sitting-up-straight sleeping, we arrived in Chicago to watch all the Winnipeg flights, as well as many others get cancelled, and never got a STRAIGHT answer why!! I guess God needed us to be together a little longer…maybe to test our new understanding of needs and wants? We are safe and healthy (except for a few spider bites that will definitely need some checking out). We have no luggage, not even the 5 team members (Amy, Haley, Lanyce, Steph, and Perry) we quickly sent off on a special Winnipeg flight earlier this evening. Shelley stayed behind to work with the Luke Commission, so our numbers are now down to 19 Swazi members. All very tired, frustrated, and VERY ready to come home.

As Gino last commented, some of us are booked on one of the three flights out of Chicago tomorrow with some chance of some of us still stuck here until Sunday. Please join us in prayer as we continue to struggle with flights, nerves, patience, and a strong longing to be home with our families!

Hope to be home soon,

Kelly Courtney

  1. I feel so sorry for you guys. Being so tired and have to sit around and wait. At least you found hotel rooms with beds to put your tired bodies to rest. Here in Winnipeg we’re waiting impatiently for your arrival. We can’t wait to see you all very soon.
May the Lord keep on guiding you and comforting you.
    With Love

  2. I don’t normally sympathize well unless I’ve been there before and man have I been there. I did get out but it was a long journey home. You will get home just keep looking forward and know that Jon will get you all home! I promise!

  3. Lanyce does this mean that you are one of the lucky ones to be home already? I’m sure that your family is so ready to have you back home safe and sound.
As for the rest of the team, we will pray for a good nights sleep and a speedy return to your loved ones!

  4. SaWOObona to my favourite Swazi-Canadians,

I’m praying for safe and smooth air travel for all of you (the bags too!). It was a teary plane ride for us who got to go home. The reality that our team has split up really got to me. We had such a rushed goodbye at the gate. I am so thankful for the team we have this year. You all have amazing talents and spirits. I love you all and pray for timely travel, sleep, comfort and health as you wait.

    • Hey Amy, your home with your family. That’s good to hear (read). I wish you a speedy “recovery” of you exhausting trip, physically, mentally & emotionally.
I’ll keep on praying for you and the Team, this time for the adjustment you’ll experience, being back in Canada. God Bless.

  5. I second Amy’s comment…what an amazing team. It was a teary start to our plane ride and it didn’t help that the woman beside me was intoxicated and complaining heavily to someone on the phone about being delayed:) I wanted to give her a smack.

I sure wish we had a proper good-bye. It was hard to leave you guys in such a rush especially after spending so much time together. I feel so grateful and more than that undeserving of being sent home early.Thank you team. I pray that you all were able to sleep and that you ALL make it home today. I am also praying for your spirits and patience in the waiting. Love you all…see you soon.

  6. Sanibonani!!!!! Imiss all of you SO much and I wish you were here with me. Everything is going well, I’m just missing my comrades that’s all! You were all great to work with and I’m excited to call each of you my friend. I’m sorry to hear you were stuck in Chicago but at least you’re safe! I love you all and I can’t wait to see you! Im trying to update FB every other day, so please keep in touch! Please pray for me while I’m in Swaziland! Yebo sisi’s & bhuti’s!!!
    Blessings…
    Shelley
